I’m Katy Waechter, a data scientist and geographer. I’m based in the Denver metro area.

My goal is to use free and open source tools to decrease the soft costs of new renewable energy deployments, primarily of solar photovoltaic generators. As PV technology improves and costs decline, so should obstacles to clean energy access and energy burden. I specialize in local siting analyses and modeling the built environment.

I believe in FAIR principles for data and prefer to use/create open data whenever possible. Views expressed here are my own and do not represent my employer.

Before I started working in renewable energy, I was an archaeologist. I still love archaeology, channeling my interests into volunteering and work with the Colorado Archaeological Society.
